We, the undersigned, as members of the Gwinnett Community, join the Gwinnett Citizens for Comprehensive Sex Education to urge you to remove “Choosing the Best” from the Gwinnett school district, and replace it with a comprehensive sex education curriculum. This curriculum would be:

  1. Science and evidenced-based, and medically accurate
  2. In line with CDC recommendations for sex education in schools
  3. Providing factual information about the efficacy of abstinence and contraceptives for the prevention of pregnancy and STI’s
  4. Focused on the reduction of risk taking behavior, and increasing responsible behavior
  5. Teaching students about the importance and definition of consent, and the responsibility of each individual in a sexual relationship
  6. Striving to build confidence and awareness in students to avoid unwanted intimacy
  7. Sensitive to the needs of students who have previously been sexually active, and to those who have experienced sexual trauma (non-shaming)
  8. Inclusive to LGBT students
  9. Values-neutral: respectful of the role of religious faith, while recognizing the diversity of beliefs in our community
  10. Understanding that parents are the ones responsible for establishing sexual health values for their children, and including opportunities for parental communication and involvement
  11. Transparent and accountable to parents—parents have the right to know the details of what will be covered, and how it will be presented, so that they can make an informed decision about whether their child will participate.
